Set of 5 Silver 1/4 Rupee Coins, George VI, 1940-45, High Grade
Set of 5 silver coins of 1/4 rupee, minted in 1940, 1942, 1943, 1944 & 1945 in British India, in the name of George VI. These are high grade, uncirculated coins with original luster still visible. Rare in this grade as a set. All of these coins are 50% silver - prior to 1940, the 1/4 rupee coins were full silver (91.7%), while after 1945, silver use was altogether stopped. During this brief period, there were changes in design features and security edge of the coins.
