Half Crown, Queen Victoria, Young Head
Silver half crown (1/8 of a pound) coin of Great Britain, issued in the name of Queen Victoria. This was the first of a series of 3 coins - the obverse has the portrait of Queen Victoria - the first, also called the 'young head'. The legend around her head in Latin reads 'Queen Victoria by the Grace of God'. The reverse has the crowned, quartered shield of arms within an olive wreath. The obverse was designed by William Wyon - whose initials 'WW' can be seen in many of the Indian 1 rupee coins of 1840.
These coins are larger than the Indian silver rupee and have a slightly higher silver content (92.5%)
There are two varieties of this coin, minted from 1840-1850 and then from 1874-1887. Read more about them here and here
