Gold Fanam, Indo-Dutch, Cochin Mint
1 Fanam Indo-Dutch gold coin, minted in Cochin by the Dutch East India Company. The Dutch, operating as the United Dutch East India Company, succeeded the Portuguese as the leading European power in India with a presence in several locations - which were subsequently acquired by the English. Cochin was an important center and coins based on local models were minted here, including this gold fanam. The obverse has a degenerated figure of Goddess Kali, while the reverse has a lazy 'J' with 3 rows of 4 dots each.
