Set of 1, 1/2 & 1/4 Rupia, 1952, Portuguese India

Set of 3 copper-nickel 1 Rupia, 1/2 Rupia and 1/4 Rupia coins of Portuguese India. The Rupia was the currency of Portuguese possessions in India up to 1958, when it was replaced by the Escudo. The previous coin - the 1947 Rupia, was half silver while these coins were entirely copper-nickel - reflecting India's move away from silver coinage. The obverse carries the Coat of Arms of Portuguese India - which includes the five shields on Portugal's coat of arms, waves representing the sea (for overseas colonies/provinces) and a fortress/tower. The reverse of the one rupee coin has a shield of arms of Portugal inside a Maltese cross. The other coins carry just the denomination. 

The three coins are all scarce, and hard to get as a set.

Weight: 12.03 grams (1 Rupia), 5.6 gm (1/2 Rupia) & 3 gm (1/4 Rupia).
