1 Fanam gold coin of the Kingdom of Mysore, minted during the reign of Kanthirava Narasaraja Wodeyar (1638-1662 AD). The obverse has the seated figure of Lord Narasimha, the obverse has part of the ruler's name in Devanagari script. The Kingdom of Mysore was founded in 1399, became a Princely State and a part of the British Empire in 1799 and ultimately merged into the Indian Union in 1947. The state was founded and ruled for most of its existence by the Wodeyar family.
