1 Rupee, William IIII, 1835
1 Rupee silver coin minted in the name of William IIII by the East India Company in 1835. This was the first time a rupee coin of uniform weight circulated across all of India. The obverse features a portrait of William IIII, while the reverse carries the denomination, between two wreaths and the date. From 1835 to 1939, the weight, size and silver content of the 1 Rupee remained unchanged (11.66 grams, 0.917 silver). Changes were only in the design and the ruler's name.
