One Rupee banknote of British India, printed in 1940. and signed by CE Jones. This was the first one rupee note to be printed during the reign of George VI, and marked a departure from earlier designs. The note says 'Government on India' in the top panel on the front (higher denominations say Reserve Bank of India). The right top has the obverse of the 1 rupee silver coin with the portrait of George VI - the reverse carries the image of the other side of the 1 rupee coin. The reverse also has denomination of the note in seven Indian languages.

The basic design used in this note continued to be used for Indian banknotes after 1947 as well.
