Set of 4 Coins, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 & 1/12 Tanga
Set of 4 bronze Indo-Portuguese coins of 1901 and 1903. These are 1/2 tanga, 1/4 tanga, 1/8 tanga and 1/12 tanga. These coins were minted during the reign of Carlos (1889-1908). The year can be seen on the obverse in Roman numerals (MCMI and MCMIII). The obverse of the coin has the King's head, his title and the date. The letters 'V Alves' can be seen at the base of the head - these are the initials of Venancio Alves, the engraver who designed the coin.
All the four coins are scarce and a set of 4 is hard to put together. Read more about these coins here, here, here and here.
The Portuguese tanga was equivalent to the British-Indian 1 anna.
Coins are part of a lot. The set you get may not be the set in the picture, but will be in approximately similar condition. Price is for 1 set of 4 coins.
