1 Rupee, Madras Presidency, 1812
Silver 1 rupee coin of Madras Presidency, minted in the name of Mughal emperor Alamgir II, AH 1172 (Islamic calendar) - or 1812 AD. These coins were minted at the Arcat mint and the mint mark - closed lotus, can be seen in the fifth picture.
Prior to 1835, East India Company minted its coins in the name of the Mughal emperor - who still was a titular ruler of India. The Madras, Bombay and Calcutta presidencies minted their own coins.
