50 Naye Paise, 1957-63
50 Naye Paise (new Paisa) coin of India, minted from 1957-63, immediately after the decimalization of the Indian currency. The naye paise is mentioned to distinguish it from the 'old' paisa, which was 1/64 of a rupee. The obverse has the Ashoka pillar, while the reverse carries the denomination and legend in Hindi. These coins are made of nickel, and are also referred to as 'magnetic coins'. These were minted in Bombay and Calcutta mints.
