Nepal, 1000 Rupees, 2008

  • Rs. 2,700.00

1000 Rupee banknote of the Federal Republic of Nepal, printed shortly after the abolition of monarchy. The older notes of Nepal carried a portrait of King Gyanendra (2001-08), which has been replaced by a picture of Mount Everest. Gyanendra was the last king of Nepal, and ascended the throne after the 'Nepalese Royal Massacre', in which his brother King Birendra, Queen Aishwarya and seven other members of the Nepalese Royal family were killed by Crown Prince Dipendra, who then shot himself. King Gyanendra faced a popular Maoist uprising, and monarchy was abolished in Nepal in 2008. The watermark window has a red rhododendron flower printed on both sides - to cover the crown which was the watermark. These notes were printed on old paper stock with the monarchy's symbols. The reverse has the picture of an elephant - a tusker.
